Patent awarded to Davis and MSE team

Two MSE graduate alumni, Jason Gu and Jacob Melby, and Professor Bob Davis have been awarded patent #9,470,650 “Two-dimensional Electron Gas (2DEG)-Based Chemical Sensors”.
The development of the sensor was a component of Jason Gu’s MSE Dissertation and catalyzed the formation and future growth of SenSevere LLC.

The sensing of hydrogen and other chemicals within very harsh environments can now be achieved with development and patenting of a robust GaN/AlGaN semiconductor heterostructure-based sensor. The research and development of this sensor on the CMU campus was the basis for the formation and initial success of SenSevere LLC based in Pittsburgh. read more
